National Mom and Pop Business Owners Day – Let’s Celebrate

Let’s Celebrate National Mom and Pop Business Owners Day

That’s right, every March 29th is National Mom and Pop Business Owners Day. As a small business ourselves, we work with many small business owners to bring their online identities to life each and every day.

These individuals spend countless hours nurturing and growing their young enterprises. The workload demands, and lack of a hired staff, often translates into long and late hours, and many missed family and personal events. But, all in all, they love what they do. After all, they are their own boss.

New businesses have always been a vital, yet not fully appreciated, part of the U.S. economy. On they retail side, they bring different and unique products to the marketplace. They provide stellar and personal service support. When you call, you are more likely to get a real, live person. And unlike big national chains, they know their products. They are outstanding performers in niche markets. In manufacturing, they create many new concepts and ideas, making them creators of new products.

The Facts

I’m sure you know just how important small businesses are to our economy – here are some quick facts from the folks at the Small Business Administration:

  • 99.7 percent of U.S. employer firms
  • 64 percent of net new private-sector jobs
  • 49.2 percent of private-sector employment
  • 42.9 percent of private-sector payroll
  • 46 percent of private-sector output
  • 43 percent of high-tech employment
  • 98 percent of firms exporting goods
  • 33 percent of exporting value

Remember, it’s not only important to support your local small business on Small Business Saturday, but to do it year round. We invite you to consider a small business the next time you dine out or need to pickup a pack of staples for the office. Your local mom and pop business owners will appreciate your patronage!
